When your website proudly declares that you are a ‘recovering corporate leader, turned serial entrepreneur’, there has to be an interesting story behind the journey.
Marti Amos, born and bred on Stewart Island, has experienced a professional career that has seen him rise to leadership roles in business, fall to experience the hardships that come with losing a company he founded, then rise again to create a multi-national business consultancy practice focused on providing builders with the tools and resources to thrive.
He would be the first to say that every experience he’s had has helped form the person he is today, with the skills, understandings and grit to succeed, and that journey has led him
to discover an innate desire to help company owners, specifically builders, to realise their best business outcomes.
“When your business is successful, it profoundly impacts all aspects of your life. Your relationships, your sense of well-being, the satisfaction of attaining your goals,” Marti says
With an attitude very much valuing the experiences and expertise of those that have made a success of their building businesses, Marti has developed a comprehensive body of best practice understandings, financial management and operational systems.
The Professional Builder is the vehicle in which Marti and his team of growth advisors and business coaches share these good business practices through one-on-one, group, and online engagement.
“We step in and help business owners really get down to the nitty gritty of how they are currently performing and where their aspirations lie,” says Marti. “Questions like ‘How do you price to a target margin? How do you market effectively and how do you build a team who will be integral to delivering the goals you seek? We delve into every aspect of their business practice using numbers to gauge results, because numbers don’t lie.”
For the last 21 years, The Professional Builder has helped 3500-plus businesses around the world, a track record Marti is very proud of. He is convinced that with access to best practice systems and on-going support, every building-business owner will achieve their
Goals.
“We’re in this with them for the long term. It’s not a case of putting out all this information.

Marti says there are two key reasons why business owners make contact. First, feeling overwhelmed as to how to work on the business, when they are also working in it and
second, wanting to create meaningful operating systems that will bring financial security, but not being sure what these are and how to implement them.
“We have a very thorough step-by-step process. We’re not here to judge, we’re here to diagnose elements in how the business is currently operating that can be worked on in a systematic way.”
A business ‘health audit’ is a starting point to really understand its situation, as Marti explains.
“You may be doing really well with numbers, but on-site things are a bit of a mess. It’s about identifying the areas holding the company back from growth. We’re also very numbers focused. It helps to get rid of a lot of the overwhelm.”
For a business owner, the typical life cycle of engagement with The Professional Builder is in the order of two and a half years. Through this time, all aspects of the business are analysed and worked on, supported with The Professional Builder’s people and tools. The Professional Builder team is spreading the word through a nationwide event tour, starting in New Zealand in August and September, then on to Australia the following two months.
“I’d encourage any builder wanting to achieve the best business outcomes with their particular goals and situation in mind, to take up this opportunity,” Marti says.
